The Arrival

Dark default
Brief

Guests enter through a real, working lifestyle shop — candles and fresh flowers in genuine 50/50 measure, with hand-thrown vases and a small section of exceptional faux stems. The shop staff don't know what's behind the back door. A small smelling room at the rear is where the guests pick up the named candle whose RFID base releases the inner threshold.

The chosen direction is at the top. The two alternates remain below as reference for the trade-offs we considered. Nothing is canonically locked — this is the working choice while we resolve smelling-room geography, trigger detail, and signage.

Option 03 · Dusk Pivot · Chosen

The shop changes register the same way the sky does.

Blue hour. The exact moment day becomes night, cobalt outside the window, candle-gold inside. The smelling room continues the pivot — walls graduate from softer charcoal at the front to Cipher Ink at the back. The threshold and the time of day do the work together.

Why this one

The only option whose hero frame carries both "real shop" and "world inside is becoming something else" in a single image. Hopper-Nighthawks framing — cobalt outside, gold inside — does brand work that neither pure-warm nor pure-Cipher-Ink can.

What it leaves open

The brand's most powerful frame only exists for about 25 minutes a day. We either shoot it and use it forever, or we accept the shop's lived Tuesday afternoon won't match the hero image. The daytime register is the next decision — Option 1's golden-hour aesthetic is a strong candidate to live alongside as the operational look.

Lock this if: we're happy committing the hero frame to a 25-minute window of the day. The shop's daytime register is a separate, still-open decision.

Option 01 · Golden Hour Lifestyle

The shop is warmth. The threshold is the contrast.

A real Petersham-meets-Earl-of-East shop at late golden hour. Daylight in the window, brass pendant glow on the counter. The Cipher Ink world only takes over in the smelling room — the pivot is where the register changes.

What it gave

Strongest journalist-walk-in safety — the shop reads unambiguously as a lifestyle store at any hour. The transition into the smelling room becomes a genuine sensory event because the world darkens.

Why not chosen

Splits the brand surface into two visual worlds. The shop-image becomes the warm public face; the Cipher Ink dossier-look only ever shows up inside the experience — weakening the top of the funnel. Likely to return as the shop's daytime register alongside the Option 3 hero frame.

Option 02 · Candlelit Throughout

You crossed the threshold the moment you opened the front door.

The shop is already evening. Lit candles everywhere, brass pendants, deep walnut, single warm sources. The smelling room is the same world a few rooms deeper. The Cipher Ink register holds from street to inner door — one continuous voice.

What it gave

One brand world end to end. Palette and single-source light do all their work from the very first frame. The most photogenic option of the three — closest to a Park Chan-wook still.

Why not chosen

The journalist walk-in test gets harder. A real candle-and-flower shop at 11am on a Tuesday doesn't look like this. The visuals oversell what the actual shop delivers in daylight — brand imagery the shop can't physically live up to in normal trading hours.
